Owen Meehan

I have been lucky enough to place two years in a row in flute and whistle, age group 15-18 in the Midwest and Mid Atlantic United States Regional Fleadh Cheoil competitions, run by Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, which qualified me to compete internationally in Ireland.

I won first place in tin whistle 15-18 at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2009 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, where I was adjudicated by Michael Hurley and Aisling McPhillips. The following year I received third place in concert flute 15- 18 at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Cavan.

I have performed with various international artists on both sides of the Atlantic, such as Shelley and Barry Phillips, George Grasso, Theo Paige, Mary McLaughlin, and Paddy Keenan.

During yearly trips to Ireland, I study under some of the greats in Irish Traditional Music, such as Kevin Crawford, June McCormack, Harry Bradley, Louise Mulcahy, Marcus O Murchu, Mary Bergin, Brian Finnegan, Tom Doorley, John Skelton, and Paddy Keenan, to name a few.

Currently, I am studying the silver flute with Kathleen Purcell. Under her tutelage I have played principle flute and piccolo in the Santa Cruz County Youth Symphony under the baton of John Larry Granger.
